মধ্যবিত্তকে সুরক্ষার একমাত্র মাধ্যম শিক্ষা। পড়াশোনা ঠিকমতো করলে অন্তত টিউশনি করে হলেও চলা যাবে।
আজ যারা দুনিয়াটাকে ফুটবল ভেবে ঠিকমতো পড়াশোনা করছে না, পরীক্ষায় বসছে না কিংবা লাইব্রেরির দিকে হাঁটছে না—তাদেরকে মাত্র বছর পনেরো পরে দেখো। দুনিয়াই তাদেরকে ফুটবল বানাবে। এর ওর কাছে হাত পাতবে, সাহায্য চাইবে, করুণা ভিক্ষা করবে।
শিক্ষা বলতে কেবল বই, স্কুল এবং সার্টিফিকেট অর্জনকে বলছি না। দক্ষতা অর্জনে মনোযোগী হওয়া দরকার। পৃথিবীর আগামী হবে দক্ষতানির্ভর। জীবন ও জীবিকার জন্য যেকোনো এক অথবা একাধিক বিষয়ে দক্ষ হতেই হবে। ছাত্রজীবনে পড়াশোনা বাদ দিয়ে উৎসব-উল্লাস করে কাটালে পরিণামে দুঃখ বোধ করতেই হবে। উত্তরাধিকারসূত্রে যদি টাটা-বিরলার সন্তান না হও, তবে মনোযোগ দিয়ে পড়াশোনা করা উচিত।
সম্প্রতি গুলতেকিন খানের একটি লেখার শেষ লাইনে—“জীবনে যত ঝড় আসুক, পড়াশোনা শেষ করতেই হবে”—চোখ আটকে গেছে। হৃদয় কেড়ে নিয়েছে এই বাক্যটি। দিনভর ভাবাচ্ছে।
বিশ্বের কত দেশের তরুণ-তরুণীরা হাজারো প্রতিবন্ধকতা মোকাবিলা করে শিক্ষা ও উচ্চশিক্ষার জন্য দেশে-বিদেশে ছুটছে। অথচ আমাদের দেশে শিক্ষা গ্রহণের সুযোগ প্রায় দুয়ারে দুয়ারে। রাষ্ট্রীয়ভাবে নাগরিক সেবায় নানা সীমাবদ্ধতা থাকলেও শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান, শিক্ষক এবং শিক্ষা উপকরণে বিশেষ কোনো অপ্রতুলতা নেই।
দুঃখ শুধু, শিক্ষায় শিক্ষার্থীদের আগ্রহ কম। অভিভাবককে লেগে থাকতে হয়, শিক্ষকদের রোজ খোঁজ নিতে হয়—তারপরেও শিক্ষার্থীদের পড়ায় মনোযোগ নেই। আজকালকার শিক্ষার্থীদের দিয়ে রাজ্যের সব কাজ তরানো যায়, কেবল পড়াশোনা বাদে।
শহরের গ্রন্থাগারগুলো পাঠকের অভাবে ধুঁকছে, লাইব্রেরিগুলোতে পাঠক গল্প-উপন্যাস খোঁজে না। শিক্ষার্থীরা শ্রেণি-পাঠ্যের গাইড বই ছাড়া অন্য কোনো ভালো বইয়ের নাম জানে না! সারা বাংলাদেশের প্রায় একই চিত্র। ক্লাসে উপস্থিতি নেই। পরীক্ষার খাতা পড়ে নম্বর দিলে পাশ করানো কঠিন। হোমওয়ার্ক দিলে সে শিক্ষক অপ্রিয় হয়ে ওঠে।
নানা সমীকরণ মিলিয়ে কেউ কেউ প্রাইভেট টিউটরের কাছে যায়। মোটকথা, পেছন থেকে তাগিদ না দিলে সন্তান পড়ছে না। যারা অভিভাবক হিসেবে সচেতন, শুধু তাদের কতিপয় সন্তানেরা ভালো করছে। বাকিদের অবস্থা গতানুগতিক—কেবল সার্টিফিকেট সর্বস্ব পড়াশোনা। এহেন পড়াশোনা জাতিকে হাজার বছর পিছিয়ে দিচ্ছে।
ছেলের মাস্টার্সের সার্টিফিকেট আছে, কাজেই তার দ্বারা কৃষিকাজ হবে না; শ্রমিক ভিসায় বিদেশে যেতে পারবে না। ফলাফলে দেশে লাখ তিরিশেক বেকার।
মেয়ে অনার্স-মাস্টার্স পাশ, তবুও বিয়ে হচ্ছে না। বয়স এবং শিক্ষা মিলিয়ে পাত্র পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না। ফলাফলে অভিভাবকদের দুশ্চিন্তা বাড়ছে।
আজ যারা নামকাওয়াস্তে পড়াশোনা করছে, তাদের সামনের দুর্দিন তারা অনুধাবন করতে পারছে না। ঠিকমতো পড়াশোনা না করলে সার্টিফিকেট গলার কাঁটা হবে।
কাজেই মধ্যবিত্ত থেকে উত্তরণের জন্য দক্ষতানির্ভর পড়াশোনা করতে হবে। আর কিছু না হোক, শিক্ষার নিজস্ব মূল্য আছে। পরিণামে যদি ধ্বংসও থাকে, তবুও তা যদি শিক্ষিতের পন্থানুসরণে হয়—তাহলে তা সমাজে দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করে।
বারবার বলি, পড়াশোনায় মনোযোগী হও। রোজ নিজেকে অতিক্রম করো। পড়াশোনা কোনোদিন কাউকে ন্যায্যতা থেকে বঞ্চিত করেনি। পড়াশোনায় ভালো না হলে সারা দুনিয়া তোমাকে লজ্জা দেবে।
তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি ব্যবহারে স্বাক্ষর না হলে রোজ পিছিয়ে পড়বে। নিজেকে আবিষ্কারের জন্য, জাত চেনানোর জন্য বই মানুষকে পথ দেখায়। যারা তোমায় পড়তে বলে, রোজ নতুন কিছু শিখতে বলে—তাদের কথা ও ভাষা এই সময়ে তিক্ত ঠেকতে পারে, কিন্তু ভবিষ্যতে আফসোস করবে।
মাত্র কয়েকটি বছর জ্ঞানসাধনায় ব্যয় করলে সারাজীবন সুখেই যেতো। জ্ঞানের নিজস্ব আলো আছে। সকল সীমাবদ্ধতা থেকে উত্তরণের জন্য জ্ঞান পথ সৃষ্টি করে। যারা জ্ঞানী এবং যারা জ্ঞানী নয়—তারা কোনোভাবেই এক নয়।
অশিক্ষিত মানুষ অর্থ-সম্পত্তির মালিক হলে তা আরও ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ হয়। সম্পদ যদি সুপথে ব্যয় করা না যায় তবে তা ধ্বংস অনিবার্য করে।
সেজন্য শিক্ষিতজন সীমিত সম্পদের মালিক হলেও, সেসব সুষম বণ্টনের মাধ্যমে সুখ-প্রশান্তি নিশ্চিত করতে পারে। অশিক্ষিত ধনবান অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রে অসুখী।
শিক্ষার্থীরা, পড়ো, পড়ো এবং পড়ো। শিক্ষা অর্জনে ‘মন্ত্রের সাধন কিংবা শরীর পাতন’ সূত্রে দশটি বছর বিনিয়োগ করো। বাকি সত্তর বছর সেটার ফল পাবে। উত্তরাধিকারের জন্য রেখে যেতে পারবে সোনালি দিন।
তুমি অন্ধকারে থেকে এই সমাজের কাউকে আলোর সন্ধান দিতে পারবে না। অথচ প্রত্যেকের আকাশের উজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্রের মতো জ্বলজ্বলে হওয়ার সুযোগ ছিল।
শিক্ষা সেই সুযোগ সবার সামনে এনেছিল। কেউ হাত বাড়িয়ে নিয়েছে, কেউ পিঠ দেখিয়ে অবহেলা করেছে। কে জিতেছে আর কে ঠকেছে—ইতিহাস থেকে শিখো।
আজ যারা সঠিক পথে নেই, চাইলেই কাল পরিবর্তনের সূচনা করতে পারে। শিক্ষা সবসময় দ্বিতীয় সুযোগ দেয়, যদি মনোযোগী হও।
শিক্ষা আলোর পথ, যার পাশে হেঁটে তুমি হতে পারো উজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্র। নিজেকে গড়ার শ্রেষ্ঠ সময় হলো আজ, এখন। বিলম্ব মানেই পিছিয়ে যাওয়া।
পড়ো, শিখো, জ্ঞানী হও—কারণ অন্ধকারে আলোর খোঁজ শুধুই বিভ্রম।

Young people from many countries of the world are running to the country and abroad for education and higher education, facing thousands of obstacles. However, in our country, opportunities for education are almost at the doorstep. Although there are various limitations in the state-run civil service, there is no particular shortage in educational institutions, teachers, and educational materials.
The only regret is that students are less interested in education. Parents have to be persistent, teachers have to check in every day—and even then, students do not pay attention to their studies. Today's students can do all the work of the state, except for studies.
The city's libraries are dying due to lack of readers, readers do not look for stories and novels in the libraries. Students do not know the names of any good books other than the guide books for the class and the curriculum! The picture is almost the same all over Bangladesh. There is no attendance in class. It is difficult to pass by reading the exam book and giving marks. The teacher becomes unpopular when he gives homework.
Some people go to private tutors based on various equations. In short, children do not study unless they are urged from behind. Only a few of those who are conscious as parents are doing well. The rest are in a traditional situation—only certificates are everything. Such education is setting the nation back a thousand years.
A son has a master's degree, so he cannot do farming; he cannot go abroad on a worker visa. As a result, there are about 30 lakh unemployed in the country.
A daughter has passed her honors and master's degree, but still she is not getting married. A husband cannot be found who matches her age and education. As a result, the worries of the parents are increasing.
Those who are studying for fame today are not able to understand the bad days ahead. If they do not study properly, a certificate will be a thorn in their side.
Therefore, to move out of the middle class, one must study based on skills. If nothing else, education has its own value. Even if there is destruction in the end, if it is done in the way of the educated—then it sets an example in society.
I repeat, be focused on your studies. Surpass yourself every day. Education has never deprived anyone of justice. If you are not good at studies, the whole world will shame you.
If you are not proficient in the use of information technology, you will fall behind every day. Books show people the way to discover themselves, to identify their caste. Those who tell you to read, to learn something new every day—their words and language may seem bitter at this time, but you will regret it in the future.
If you spent just a few years on knowledge, you would have lived happily your whole life. Knowledge has its own light. Knowledge creates a path to overcome all limitations. Those who are knowledgeable and those who are not knowledgeable—they are by no means the same.
If an uneducated person owns money and property, it becomes more risky. If wealth is not spent in the right way, its destruction is inevitable.
That is why even though an educated person owns limited wealth, they can ensure happiness and peace through the balanced distribution of those resources. Uneducated rich people are unhappy in most cases.
Students, read, read, and read. Invest ten years in acquiring education on the basis of 'mantra practice or body purification'. The remaining seventy years will yield its results. You can leave behind golden days for inheritance.
You cannot help anyone in this society find light while remaining in darkness. Yet everyone had the opportunity to shine like a bright star in the sky.
Education brought that opportunity to everyone. Some raised their hands, some turned their backs and neglected. Who won and who cheated—learn from history.
Those who are not on the right path today can initiate change tomorrow if they want. Education always gives a second chance, if you are attentive.
Education is the path of light, by walking along which you can become a bright star. The best time to build yourself is today, now. Delay means falling behind.
Read, learn, be wise—because searching for light in darkness is only an illusion.
